Jane Root is Chief Executive of Nutopia, a production company committed to thinking big and creating some of the most ambitious and ground breaking television in the world.   In the first year of its life Nutopia created a new kind of television the ‘mega doc’ – huge scale series’ designed to stand out from the crowd and be channel defining.  Nutopia’s first ‘mega doc’ was the 12 part Emmy-winning series America Story of Us with CGI, specialist real-world filming techniques and stylised dramatisation. Introduced by President Barack Obama, it became the most watched special show in History Channel history.

A former President of Discovery Channel USA and Controller of BBC2 in the UK,  Jane’s other credits include genealogy series Who Do You Think You Are, action-adventure smash The Deadliest Catch, global comedy success The Office and landmark format series, Great Britons, which sold in over 60 territories worldwide, her credits as broadcaster include Planet Earth for Discovery.

Nutopia is currently in production or about to air, with a slate of ‘mega-docs’ for UK and international broadcasters – The British for Sky Television; Mankind The Story of All of Us for the History Channel; The 80’s for National Geographic and How We Invented The World for Discovery Networks International.
