Bess Kargman is the director, producer and co-editor of the award winning dance documentary FIRST POSITION.  The movie premiered at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival and was acquired by Sundance Selects/IFC. Since the film's release in May, it has screened in over 200 theaters around the world.  The U.S. TV channel Bravo will broadcast FIRST POSITION in the coming months as well.   FIRST POSITION is Kargman's first film. Previously she produced stories for numerous media outlets including National Public Radio, The Washington Post and NBC Olympics. She holds degrees from Amherst College and Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, where she studied under the acclaimed documentary filmmaker Jon Alpert. In her final semester Alpert challenged her "to actually finish a film some day," which spurred her to make FIRST POSITION.
