Alex Rotaru has worked in script development and documentaries, helming several award-winning docs - including the New York Times Critic’s Pick THEY CAME TO PLAY, and KIDS WITH CAMERAS, chosen by the US State Department for its 2011 American Documentary Showcase.  His most recent project, SHAKESPEARE HIGH, a feature documentary executive produced by Kevin Spacey and starring Spacey, Richard Dreyfuss, Mare Winningham and Val Kilmer, is about teens improving their lives through theater, premiered at Tribeca Film Festival, won awards at several  international film festivals, is being released theatrically and on Showtime Networks in the USA, and was included in the State Department’s 2012 American Film Showcase - as one of 19 documentaries most representative of American values. Alex is currently developing a slate of documentary and fiction features, two reality series, and prepping to direct his first fiction feature - after winning the Romanian government’s CNC screenplay financing competition.  He is the recipient of a Christopher Award for PBS POV’s THE HOBART SHAKESPEAREANS.
